How can we help the gingerbread man across the river?

After reading the story of the gingerbread man, P1 decided to conduct an experiment to find out what would happen if the gingerbread man had swam across the river on his own. We made a hypothesis each and then in groups tested it out. Our results were surprising!

This week, our focus during topic time has been on the story of The Gingerbread Man. The boys and girls made their own gingerbread men in the STEM room and then they decorated them using icing. The children really enjoyed this activity and have been sent home with a copy of the recipe we used in their homework bags this week: if you feel inspired to make some at home!

Our bean stalks are growing!

On Friday, we took the train to Dalmuir Park to meet Sandra the Ranger. Sandra took us on a tour of the park, keeping a close eye on any wildlife we encountered on our way! The boys and girls enjoyed using the binoculars to spot different types of birds. Everyone LOVED playing in the play park!

Hansel and Gretel- making sweetie houses

This week during our topic time, we read the story of Hansel and Gretel. We decided to make sweetie houses just like in the story.

Our magic beans are growing! 

Big Maths: Measuring length and weight

 The children used cubes to help measure some of their favourite fairyland characters. They made estimates of how long they thought they would be before they started.

 We used pan balances to explore 'heavier and lighter' using items from around the classroom. The children  really loved this activity.

 Paula's group was tasked with making fairyland characters using the play dough. They measured them afterwards using the cubes.

Rory made a beanstalk that was 7 cubes long!
